Frequently Asked Questions:

How Do I Complete my PADI Open Water Scuba Diver Certification with Seminole Scuba?

Becoming a scuba diver is an exciting adventure—and at Seminole Scuba, we’re here to guide you every step of the way. Whether you’re brand new or finally ready to check diving off your bucket list, earning your PADI Open Water Certification is where it all begins.

Scuba certification includes three main phases:

1. Knowledge Development (Learn at Your Own Pace)

Your journey starts with learning the fundamentals of scuba diving. At Seminole Scuba, we make this flexible and convenient with PADI Manuals and in-person support.

You’ll learn:

  • How to plan safe and enjoyable dives

  • How to choose and use scuba equipment

  • Underwater communication and safety procedures

You can complete this portion at home, at your own pace, and our instructors are always available to help if you have questions.

2. Confined Water Training (Build Confidence)

Next, you’ll get in the water! In a pool or calm, controlled environment, you’ll practice essential scuba skills with one of our experienced instructors.

You’ll learn how to:

  • Set up and use your scuba gear

  • Clear your mask and regulator

  • Control your buoyancy

  • Navigate underwater

  • Practice important safety skills

At Seminole Scuba, we focus on making you feel comfortable and confident—not rushed.

3. Open Water Dives (The Real Adventure)

Now for the best part—your first real dives! You’ll complete four open water dives over two days, applying everything you’ve learned.

Living in Florida means you have access to some incredible dive sites, including:

  • Local reefs and wrecks

  • Crystal-clear springs

  • Easy boat diving right in South Florida

This is where you truly become a diver.

How Long Does It Take to Get Scuba Certified?

At Seminole Scuba, we offer flexible scheduling to fit your lifestyle.

  • Complete Book Learning at home

  • Finish pool + open water in two weekends

  • We offer a private schedule to complete in as little as a long weekend

We focus on your comfort and skill level, so you progress successfully.

At Seminole Scuba, we pride ourselves on:

  • Transparent pricing

  • High-quality instruction

  • Small class sizes for personalized attention

Stop by the shop or contact us for current course pricing and packages.

What Gear Will I Need to Get Scuba Certified?

Getting your gear is part of the fun—and we’ll help you every step of the way. We also offer discounts on much of the personal gear for our students.

To start, you’ll want your own (all dive quality):

  • Mask

  • Snorkel

  • Fins

  • Boots

  • Weights

  • Surface Marker Buoy

  • Whistle

  • Mouthpieces

These items are personal-fit, and our team will make sure you get the perfect match.

During your course, you’ll also learn to use:

  • BCD (Buoyancy Control Device)

  • Dive computer

  • Tank and weights

At Seminole Scuba, we carry a curated selection of top-quality gear and will help you choose what’s right for your comfort, diving goals, and budget.

What Are the Requirements to Get Scuba Certified?

Getting certified is easier than you might think:

  • Minimum age: 10 years old

  • Basic swimming ability (200 yards + 10-minute float)

  • Complete a simple medical questionnaire

If you’re comfortable in the water and ready for adventure—you’re ready to dive.

Where Can You Dive?

One of the best parts about scuba diving? You can do it almost anywhere.

As a Seminole Scuba diver, you’ll have access to:

  • Local Florida reefs and wrecks

  • Freshwater springs

  • Group trips and dive travel opportunities

From your first dive to your next big adventure—we’ll help you keep exploring.

What will I see when I am scuba diving?

On the course you have the chance to see marine life but remember we are there for training so you wont see as much as on a fun dive normally:

  • Will I see Alligators? Officially any body of water in Florida has Gators in but the chances are extremely low as they stay away from people and especially divers.

  • Will I see Sharks?  It is possible on the final dive but again extremely unlikely as sharks are far more scared of us than we are of them.

  • What will we see? Often we see; Freshwater turtles, River Otters, Bass, Garr and Blue Gill in the springs and then in the Ocean we have the chance to see lots of; Starfish, Octopus, Yellow Sting rays, and tropical fish. We may even see Frogfish or seahorses if we are lucky.
