Fiji 2013
The 2013 Fiji trip was truly spectacular.
We started the trip on the island of Taveuni where we spent 7 nights at an ocean front hotel.
The first day we arrived early in the morning, we were welcomed into the hotel and offered some breakfast which was truly welcome after the long journey there. Later on in the day we decided to organize a trip to the north of the island where we trekked into the mountain jungle in search of waterfalls. The views were splendid and the water was crisp and refreshing after the long hike into the lofty mountains overlooking the islands coastline. For several days after this we had some magnificent dives with crystal clear, and calm flat waters. The Sealife is abundant and versatile from Christmas tree worms to hammerheads! We took a walk to the naturally occurring waterslides and, under the professional supervision of one of the local children, splashed our way through the waters down to a small deep pool where all the children run and play on the rocks above. We also went to the north of the island and rode horses up into the hills to a dormant volcano. A trip to Prince Charles Beach and a pitcher of beer at Tromontos for sunset is also one of the highlights of the trip.
After departing Taveuni we took a plane over to Nadi, Viti Levu where we stayed on Denerau island. Here we had plenty of things to do with an abundance of restaurant and shops at the port of Denerau as well as in Nadi. The highlights of this portion of the trip was the Beqa shark encounter and the spa at Denerau.
The shark dive started with gearing up and a short boat trip out to the site. Once you are there the dive instructors in charge give you the history of the shark encounter. They tell you all about the conservation efforts, how the local village benefits, the names of the sharks you see, and the importance of sharks to the oceans delicate ecosystem. After the shark dive we stopped at the Uprising (we will be staying here in March 2015) where we had a lovely lunch and could not stop talking about the amazing dives we just had.
All in all this was a fantastic trip and we cannot wait until March 2015 for our return trip to Fiji and the spectacular islands of Viti Levu and Taveuni!!!

FIJI is why we dive.
I have traveled many places in the world with many different groups. This trip was amongst the best. Taveuni was a vacation oasis, well worth the 24-hour marathon trek to get there. The reefs were fantastic and healthy. Nothing in Florida comes close to this diving experience. The Garden Island Resort was perfect, small and quaint. The hotel staff was friendly and warm and knew us each by name. The dive shop was conveniently located on the property. The friendly and helpful dive staff provided 2 morning boat dives. The surface interval was spent wandering a beautiful beach while eating homemade cookies and muffins. The afternoons were spent exploring island activities including amazing waterfalls, horseback riding, black pearl shopping, natural waterslide (ouch!), open-air massages, and local watering holes. Paul and Kristen organized a great trip and were able to iron out the tiny inevitable stresses quite effectively. They are experienced travelers who have lived and worked internationally, and their knowledge and skills provided a relaxed and fun vacation. I look forward to traveling with Seminole Scuba again.
