What Is the PADI Rescue Diver Course?

At Seminole Scuba, the PADI Rescue Diver course is where divers take a big step forward—not just in skill, but in awareness and confidence.

Up to this point, your training has focused on you as a diver. The Rescue course shifts that mindset. You’ll learn how to:

  • Recognize potential problems before they happen

  • Assist other divers

  • Respond calmly and effectively in emergency situations

This course transforms you into a more capable, confident diver—and a better dive buddy.

What Does a Rescue Diver Actually Do?

Ideally? Just enjoy diving.

At Seminole Scuba, we emphasize prevention first—planning dives properly and staying aware so emergencies don’t happen in the first place.

But if something does go wrong, you’ll be ready.

You’ll learn how to:

  • Identify stress in other divers

  • Prevent small issues from becoming big ones

  • Respond to real-world dive scenarios

These skills make you one of the most valuable people in the water—even if you never need to use them.

How Hard Is the Rescue Diver Course?

This is often described as the most challenging—and most rewarding—course in recreational diving.

Unlike previous courses, this one includes:

  • Realistic rescue scenarios

  • Problem-solving under pressure

  • Physical and mental challenges

At Seminole Scuba, we guide you through every step in a supportive, team-based environment. You’ll be pushed—but you’ll also have a lot of fun doing it.

What Are the Prerequisites of the Rescue Diver Course?

To enroll, you’ll need:

  • PADI Advanced Open Water Diver (or equivalent)

  • CPR & First Aid training within the last 24 months

—-Don’t have CPR/First Aid yet?
We offer Emergency First Response (EFR) training right here at Seminole Scuba, often scheduled alongside your Rescue course.

How Long Does The Recue Diver Course Take?

Most Rescue Diver courses at Seminole Scuba are completed in:

  • 4–7 days total (including eLearning + in-water training)

We offer flexible scheduling to fit your availability.

What Will I Actually Do in The Rescue Diver Course?

This is not just a “dive course”—it’s hands-on, scenario-based training.

You’ll complete:

  • A review of self-rescue skills

  • 10 rescue exercises

  • 2 full rescue scenarios

You’ll practice skills:

  • On land

  • At the surface

  • Underwater

  • From shore and/or boat

Every scenario is designed to feel real—so you build confidence that carries into real diving situations.

What Skills Will I Learn in Rescue Diver?

You’ll learn how to manage both minor issues and serious emergencies, including:

  • Assisting tired or panicked divers

  • Handling equipment problems

  • Searching for a missing diver

  • Bringing an unresponsive diver to the surface

  • Providing rescue breaths and getting a diver to safety

At Seminole Scuba, we focus on real-world application, especially in conditions you’re likely to experience diving here in Florida.

Why Is First Aid Training Required?

Because rescue doesn’t stop at the surface.

In your EFR (Emergency First Response) training, you’ll learn:

  • CPR

  • AED use

  • First aid and injury assessment

In the Rescue course, you’ll learn how to:

  • Safely bring a diver to shore or boat

  • Provide care until help arrives

Together, these skills prepare you for both diving and everyday emergencies.

Do I Really Need To Become a Rescue Diver? Is the Rescue Diver Course Worth It?

Without a doubt—this is the course that changes how you dive.

You’ll:

  • Gain serious confidence in the water

  • Become more aware and in control

  • Be a stronger, safer dive buddy

  • Take a major step toward Master Scuba Diver or professional training

Many divers say this is their favorite course—and the one that made them feel like a “real” diver.

Is It Actually Fun?

Yes—seriously.

Even though the skills are important, the course is:

  • Interactive

  • Team-based

  • Full of memorable scenarios

At Seminole Scuba, expect:

  • Lots of laughs

  • Creative rescue scenarios

  • A supportive group environment

It’s common to see divers finishing the course smiling, exhausted, and already planning their next step.
