Komodo, Indonesia 2016
In September 2016 we traveled to one of the mysterious places on earth to dive. Where below the water you have whale sharks, manta rays and amazing macro life, whilst above the water you have one of the worlds rarest reptiles The Komodo Dragon. Paul now has nightmares about the Komodo Dragons. We did 33 dives in this incredible environment from one of the worlds top Liveaboards over 10 days. The Indo-Siren is the best way to see all this area without having to change hotels everyday. The Indo-Siren is a stunning 40m (132ft) double mast motor sailing vessel that has been designed just for divers, with beautiful A/C cabins all with en-suite and lots of work areas for cameras and gear. This is the most luxurious way to see the amazing diving in Komodo. Having used the Indo-Siren before we knew what to expect although Komodo was very different to Raja Ampat. Komodo is a collection of larger islands with vast deep walls and some crazy currents. The Landing strip dive site for example is a flat reef that we cruised along at about 3 knots as Manta rays and other marine life cruised past.
South Komodo offered us some incredible marine life highlights being Frogfish, Ghost Pipefish, Mantas, Nudibranchs and Octopus. North Komodo had the amazing Pygmy seahorses and the Mandarin fish! If you want to see Cuttlefish, Komodo is definitely the place with at least 5 on each dive they are all over. Komodo was the home of so many weird and wonderful critters that most of us have not seen before. We will certainly be going back!
